CMS is made up of individuals who believe that taking the time to give back to our local community is critical. We enjoy sharing our talents, providing in-kind support, donations, and time with numerous local charities. Further, our employees are engaged each year to provide input on the charities we support and the charitable events we run.
Charitable Match Program
Due to COVID-19, our ability to organize in-person volunteer events was diminished. Therefore, CMS created our first Charitable Match Program. In order to ensure we focused on causes on the minds of our team, we reached out through a "Help Shape CMS" survey. With a response rate of >90%, CMS employees voiced their support for combatting homelessness and food insecurity, as well as standing up for social justice. Therefore, CMS matches employee donations to the following outstanding charitable organizations: Second Story, Food for Others, and the Legal Aid Justice Center. Each of these charities has outstanding reputations in our local community and is aligned with CMS employees' top priorities for charitable support.
Volunteering and Giving Back
The CMS team gives back through in‑kind support, donations, and volunteering our time. Here are a few of the outstanding charities doing amazing work in our communities that we are lucky enough to work closely with.
CMS delivers supplies and additional in-kind donations to Second Story. Second Story transforms the lives of children, youth, and their families by providing safe havens and opportunities for thriving growth. Second Story’s programs and community-based support include homeless youth and children, young mothers, and teens in crisis. Second Story works closely with youth and families to achieve self-sufficiency and to break cycles of homelessness, abuse, and poverty.
CMS hosts company-wide events to power pack food donations at Food for Others, a food bank whose mission is to aid the food insecure in Northern Virginia. While Northern Virginia is perceived as a wealthy region, over 700,00 residents live in poverty (30% of which are children). With 16 distribution sites across Fairfax County, Food for Others feeds over 2,600 people each week.
The Legal Aid Justice Center is one of the flagship charities in CMS’s corporate match program. The Legal Aid Justice Center partners with communities and clients to achieve justice by dismantling systems that create and perpetuate poverty. Justice means racial justice, social justice, and economic justice.
CMS is a corporate sponsor of the Vienna Youth Soccer league. CMS team members enjoy building their relationships with the team organization and youth athletes in our local town.
CMS is a Corporate Ambassador for Doorways for Women and Families, a charity that focuses on rebuilding the lives of women, men, and children facing homelessness or abuse. Since 1978, Doorways has been serving the community to survive crises, change lives, and achieve brighter futures.
